Choose Bahia for changing scales, planted riads, reception rooms and the monumental Grand Courtyard. Choose Ben Youssef for a more compact composition centred on a scholarly courtyard, student cells and dense carved decoration. Both reward attention to zellige, plaster and cedar.
Location and visit rhythm
Bahia lies in the southern Medina near the Mellah; Ben Youssef is farther north near the museum and souks. They are not next-door attractions, so allow Medina walking time. Bahia usually suits a longer, flowing visit; the madrasa is more concentrated but can feel busy in its central court.
