Marrakech’s palaces are not interchangeable. Bahia is the intimate, decorated residence; Badi is the monumental ruin; the Royal Palace remains active and is not a standard visitor attraction. Choose by the experience you want, not by a generic “best palace” list.

Bahia Palace: detail and lived space
Choose Bahia for painted cedar, carved plaster, zellige, gardens and the changing scale of courtyards. It rewards a slower visit and works well for architecture, photography and first-time orientation in the southern Medina.
Badi Palace: ruins and spectacle
Choose Badi for vast walls, open sky and the drama of a Saadian-era palace reduced to its structure. The experience is more exposed and monumental, while Bahia feels more intimate and finished.
How to combine them
Visit Bahia early, continue through the Mellah and walk to Badi before the hottest part of the afternoon. Add the Saadian Tombs or Dar Si Said only if the pace still feels comfortable; three strong stops are better than a rushed checklist.
